Growing out of The Ramp and the Pit, this article defines the concept of the dark ecstatic and discusses its critical role in the development of individual and collective consciousness. Art's group was an attempt to develop an instrument for increasing collective consciousness in a 200 member professional society. It met once a month for 8 years. Several similar experiments in a variety of different organizations were inspired by its success.
